Experiential Baptism: Experiential Unity

leave a comment »

Now we come to the second most important part of this series; the first being the meaning of God’s gift of experiential baptism.

For centuries, Christians have been dividing over the issue of baptism, but this is no longer necessary.

If we understood baptism experientially, we can look to something else on which to base our unity: the Holy Spirit.  You see, its the Spiritual realities that create our unity; not the experiential ones.  It is our faith that unites us; not our common understanding.

Since experience is the reason for baptism, we can tear down the dividing walls set up by the other views and get beyond or efforts to obtain righteousness through legal means.

No longer must we wonder about the salvation of someone that hasn’t been baptized like we were (or who hasn’t been baptized at all).  No longer must we question the Church membership of someone that hasn’t been baptized like we were (or who hasn’t been baptized at all).  We must only offer the experience to someone who has never experienced it.  We only have to offer God’s gift of experiential baptism to a world wanting know how God feels about them.  The waters that divide should divide us no more and cannot if we accept experiential baptism.
